Double XP Weekend to celebrate Black Ops 2's Vengeance DLC is live on all platforms

Treyarch is fast on track to keep people playing CoD this weekend. Not like they really need the help, but a Double XP Weekend surely couldn't hurt things, right?

That's the company's logic at least, as another one of the famed weekends is now live to celebrate the soon to arrive next bit of DLC, the Vengeance map pack. Despite that Xbox 360 owners get the usual 30 day exclusivity period to the DLC, the Double XP Weekend is available and ready for Black Ops 2 on all platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U (so we think anyway, that system sure seems to miss out on quite a bit).

Treyarch let fans know about the Weekend on Wedensday, tweeting, "Vengeance is a dish best served with Double XP, so look for it this Friday, June 28 (10am/PDT), running through Monday, July 1 (10am/PDT)."

The weekend's close signals just one more day until the third DLC arrives.

Dubbed Vengeance, the third DLC pack offers a total a four "new" multiplayer maps, and a new weapon for the zombie mode called the "Ray Gun Mark II."

I say "new" because one of the maps, Uplink, is actually a remake of the Summit map from the first Black Ops game. The rest of the multiplayer maps are called Cove, Detour, and Rush. In addition to the new maps, there's also a new zombie adventure, called Buried, which will feature the new Ray Gun Mark II. Doesn't look like this will feature big name talent like Uprising had with Palminteri and Liotta. Instead, players go back to controlling the "Green Run" crew, and a creepy new ghost lady type character will be joining in the melee.

Gamers may remember the original Ray Gun as a prominent weapon featured in the last few Call of Duty games, but it's unknown how this new one is different. By offering a new weapon, the Vengeance map pack is similar to the first DLC map pack offered, Revolution.

Exact pricing details haven't been released as of yet, but it's expected to cost the same as previous map packs - 1200 MS Points for the Xbox 360, and $14.99 for PlayStation 3 and PC via Steam. It's unknown if the DLC will be making its way to the Wii U.

As per usual, Xbox 360 players will be the first to get a hold of the DLC early next month, July 2nd. After 30 days, the DLC should then make its way to PC and PlayStation 3 platforms.
