Ultimate Warrior coming to WWE 2K14

One of the major superstars from the WWE's heyday looks to be coming to WWE 2K14 courtesy of a pre-order bonus, according to an ad in the August issue of the official WWE magazine. The gorilla pressing, longhaired mess known as the Ultimate Warrior looks to be joining the game's roster.

2K has yet to make any formal announcement on the wrestler's addition, but given the source, it'd be hard to argue against it. While younger readers and wrestling fans may not remember, the colorful wrestler alter ego of Jim Hellwig, now legally known simply as "Warrior," was one of the standouts of the organization during the late 80's and early 90's, when it was known as the WWF.

Despite his being one of the standout stars of wrestling, Warrior/Hellwig had a bit of a strained relationship with WWE head honcho Vince McMahon behind the scenes. Shortly after his first departure from the then WWF, Hellwig sued McMahon and the organization for control of the Warrior character, which eventually led to Helwig's legal name change, thinking it could help his case.

The court ruled that Warrior was legally entitled to use the gimmick, costuming, face paint designs, and mannerisms of the "Warrior" character, but unless I'm mistaken, I believe that McMahon and company still retain legal rights to the "Ultimate Warrior" name, meaning that the character's addition would be a nice slap in the face to Jim "Warrior" Hellwig.

Despite being such a stand out character, the Ultimate Warrior hasn't appeared in many WWE games of late, likely due to the relationship between him and the company. The Ultimate Warrior last appeared in Legends of Wrestlemania and WWE All-Stars. In WWE 2K14, he'll be joined by stars of the current and past eras alike such as Kane, Big Show, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Jerry Lawler, the Undertaker, and others.

WWE 2K14 is headed to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in late October and early November.
