'When worlds collide' promo is for new Ratchet & Clank game, Into the Nexus [Trailer]

If you frequent a few gaming sites here and there to get your news updates, the chances are good you saw an ad featuring something that looked like a giant purple eclipse, with the phrase "when worlds collide." It's since been announced by Insomniac Games that the teaser isn't for a new IP, but rather, the next Ratchet & Clank game, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, and it's coming exclusively to PlayStation 3 later this year.

The official PlayStation blog provided some details on the game, which will be the thirteenth in the series. The game is under the creative direction of Brian Allgeier, whose worked on past Ratchet & Clank titles Tools of Destruction, and A Crack in Time. It'll be the same sort of "story-driven platform adventure, with the humor and heart that make the franchise so beloved," and as per tradition, "Into the Nexus has a bunch of crazy new weapons and gadgets." Said weapons gamers can expect include the Winterizer, Nightmare Box, Repulsor, Vortex Grenade, Grav Tether, Fusion Grenade and Nether Blades.

The game will conclude the "adventure" saga that began with Tools of Destruction, and "gets the series back to its roots, a so-called 'traditional' Ratchet & Clank game" according to IGN.

Past characters like Captain Qwark, Cronk, Zephyr, and Talwyn make a return, and players will visit a brand new sector of space, filled with planets to explore.

While a reveal was allegedly just around the corner, Insomnaic slipped up, posting Into the Nexus details ahead of schedule. The details were taken down, but since you can't keep anything off the net once you put it in, it was already too late. NeoGAF users managed to copy a description, which you can read below:

"After one of the most infamous manhunts in galactic history results in the capture of Vendra Prog, Ratchet and Clank offer to escort the dangerous criminal to the Vartax Detention Center. After a daring orbital jailbreak at the forgotten edge of the galaxy, Ratchet and Clank find themselves lost in an abandoned sector. There, in deepest space, they uncover an inter-dimensional event that threatens the universe-and forces Ratchet to decide what's really important."

Insomniac went with their mistake, and announced the game ahead of schedule, even offering up a trailer.

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus hits the PS3 this holiday season. As the "biggest downloadable Ratchet & Clank game yet, dwarfing the size of both Quest For Booty and Full Frontal Assault," players look to like they'll be getting the better end of a bargain, as the game will go for only $29.99 when it releases.
