Hotline Miami tops June charts as best seller on the PS Vita

Sometimes smaller is better. Case in point with Hotline Miami, a little indie game developed by just two people. The game managed to snag a lot of buzz when it first arrived on PC, and it's continued to do very well for itself now that it's expanded onto the PlayStation Network.

As a matter of fact, Hotline Miami took the top spot as the most played title on Sony's handheld PS Vita in both Europe and North America (don't worry if you don't have the Sony gizmo, you can play it on your PlayStation 3 too).

If you've missed the buzz on the game, it's a gritty n' gory little indie game with a good amount of challenge and a trippy, surreal storyline with a side of stealth all set in the neon soaked underbelly of a seedy 80's Miami (almost like an 8-bit Manhunt) that make it easily worth $10 on PSN. Or, for you those who prefer PC gaming, the game is also 75 percent off over at Steam, but only 'til tomorrow night. A high number of weapons and masks keep the game from getting too repetitive, as well as a difficult to achieve secret ending.

A sequel is currently in development, described as "a brutal conclusion to the gruesome saga, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number follows the escalating level of violence through multiple factions born from the events of the original game and driven by uncertain motivations. Step into the murderous mind of several distinct characters – each with their own motivations and methods of execution — as storylines intersect and reality slips away into a haze of neon and carnage. Blistering combat, an unmistakable visual style, and a powerfully intense soundtrack will once again push you to the limit and questioning your own thirst for blood. Coming to PC, Mac, and Linux in 2013. Maybe."

A trailer was recently released for the follow up. Check it out below.

Despite launching in the final week of June, Dennaton's murderous little game managed to outsell the likes of Muramasa Rebirth,Assassins Creed III Liberation, and Guacamelee. As for the PlayStation 3 games, well, The Last of Us is pretty amazing and has thesales to match.
