'Capcom Cup 2016' News And Updates: Prize Pool, Players, What We Know So Far

Capcom's 2016 "Pro Tour" culminates this December for the "Capcom Cup 2016". 32 international players have finally qualified after winning points from official tournaments held across the globe. The top 32 to top 8 matches will start on Dec. 2 at the Esports Arena in Santa Ana, California, While the top 8 and championship matches happen over at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California the following day.

The tournament will have players reportedly competing for a share of the $350 thousand dollar prize. Likewise, the title of "Street Fighter V World Champion" is also up for grabs. Shoryuken mentions that the prize pool includes the proceeds from Capcom's "Pro Tour" DLC sales. The top 3 players get $120 thousand, $60 thousand, and $25 thousand respectively. Moreover, each winner gets an added undisclosed bonus amount from Capcom.

According to the Capcom "Pro Tour" website, the tournament will follow a double elimination bracket style. Each match will be a best-out-of-five format, with the first player to reach three wins taking the game. Player match-ups are going to be based on Capcom's "Pro Tour" global leaderboard.

The top-seeded player in the official rankings hails from South Korea, Seonwoo Lee (RZR/Infiltration) who uses Nash as his main. He is followed by a Japanese Ryu player named Hajime Taniguchi (Tokido). Third in the ranks belongs to Justin Wong (EG/Justin Wong), who is a Karin-user from the US. Another entrant from the US takes the fourth spot as Du Dang (Liquid/KnuckleDu) qualifies using Guile. The fifth is occupied by Keita Ai (RZR/Fuudo) from Japan and is known for his aggressive Rainbow Mika gameplay. Surprisingly, last minute cancellations from two qualified players opened spots for players like Kenneth Bradley (EG/K-Brad) from the US and Fujimura Atsushi (Yukadon) from Japan.
