GoPro, a leading American technology company, created a stir a few weeks back due to the product recall of Karma, its first generation of drones. Incidentally DJI, the leading civilian drone industry company, also made headlines because of the delays in shipment with its latest drone model, Mavic Pro, but was addressed right away. This incident gave the GoPro Karma drone negative reviews from the consumers.
Drones, or officially called Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, was first used by the military as early as the 1900s. It was just in the recent years that civilians became more enthusiastic in using drones, that FAA had been compelled to publish a more concise rules and restrictions for commercially used drones . In the past year alone there had been a 224% increase in the number of drones sold from April 2015 to April 2016. GoPro Karma joined the scene just late this year, but things didn't turn out so great.
According to sources,GoPro aimed for an increase in sales for this holiday when it released its Karma drone back in October. The company has been losing for some time now and The GoPro Karma, was supposed to be the company's hope to pull up the revenues lost. Ever since the recall, more loss had been incurred by the company.
The GoPro Karma was recalled due to "performance issue related to a loss of power during operation and a full refund was provided to the buyers. A couple of videos found its way online of the drone almost causing harm to unsuspecting passersby by suddenly "falling out of the sky". To compensate the consumer for this inconvenience the company offered to give out free HERO5 Black to consumers.
As of this moment, GoPro had not released any other updates regarding the GoPro Karma. The company is planning to make the drone available back in the market once the issue has been solved.
