FIFA 14 Ultimate Team unveiled: What’s new

Year after year, EA keeps up with customer demands for making the company’s trademark FIFA series better with extended features and added capabilities. As promised, the company does end up adding more and more to the series, aside from refined player rosters and overalls (while neglecting a few buggy issues). Similarly, this year's FIFA 14 is no different.

The developer recently revealed the revised version of FIFA Ultimate Team, alongside some old and new features that are making its way to it. EA also states that the Ultimate Team roster now has over 3.4 million matches played daily, and is the most popular game mode.

For those who are still not up to date with FIFA’s Ultimate Team feature, the Ultimate Team allows FIFA players to construct their own ideal fantasy team comprised of professional players. Gamers can either earn these players, or get them through buying special player-packs. The fully managed Ultimate Team is then taken out to compete against other players' rosters.

Let’s take a quick look at what’s new in FUT for FIFA 14 this year:

To begin with, EA will now allow players to customize their squad to match any style of play with the new FUT Chemistry Styles. FUT Chemistry Styles and Loyalty have been introduced to make each player and every team unique. Moreover, these aspects also replace player formation and morale in the mode.

EA states that there are a number of different FUT Chemistry Styles to choose from for goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards, with every Chemistry Style affecting different player attributes, making each individual play styles stand out within the game.

Later, the choices the players make will influence their team’s performance, with the overall goal remaining the same: Create the ideal chemistry within your squad.

“For example, if you want to increase your striker’s scoring ability, you may choose to apply an Attacking Chemistry Style to boost their attacking attributes,” the official page states.

Players will also be able to play single game matches online against rivals, EA calls this "the community's most sought-after feature." The Season’s mode now features 10 divisions with promotion, relegation, titles and tournaments. The mode can be played both online and offline and will offer a new set of rewards, such as coins, items, and players.

The Transfer Market also seems to be modified with a “new streamlined, user-friendly search interface enables you to seek out players by name on the Transfer Market and compare them to your roster.”

Player Loyalty also plays a major part with players coming via packs automatically set to start with a loyalty Chemistry boost. However, the ones coming via the Transfer Market will need at least 10 matches to unlock loyalty.

Players can now customize squad kit numbers and set-piece takers directly from the squad screen.

FIFA 14 is currently set for a Sept. 24 release for PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita. Next-generation versions of the game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are also expected at a later date.
