‘Marvel vs. Capcom 4’ Release Date, Gameplay, News & Update: New Installment Due Out in 2017? X-Men Characters Reportedly Excluded

A new report claims that "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" is due out in 2017. The series, which has been a long-time favorite among gamers, is always a massive hit, given its amount of fan-favorite characters. Whether a veteran or a noob, "Marvel vs. Capcom," undoubtedly holds a unique spot in the fighting game scene.

According to Polygon, insider sources have allegedly confirmed that the game will be announced this week as part of the PlayStation Experience event. Both companies haven't confirmed or denied the reports, although "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" is reportedly to focus on Marvel characters.

"Marvel vs. Capcom 4" To Come Without "X-Men?"

If we are to take insiders seriously, this would mean "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" would come without the X-Men characters, which could prove disappointing to fans. Apparently, fighting game fans should expect characters from "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "The Avengers." Instead of popular "X-Men" heroes and villains like Wolverine, Storm, Phoenix and Magneto, fans are slated to settle for Groot, Ant-Man, Rocket Raccoon and maybe, Doctor Strange.

"Marvel vs. Capcom 4" Gameplay Changes: Yay Or Nay?

"Marvel vs. Capcom 4" sans the "X-Men" mainstays is a move that could either make or break the franchise. "X-Men" has had a long history with the series, which dates back 1994 in Capcom's fighting game "X-Men: Children of the Atom."

Fans have long pursued a new "Marvel vs. Capcom" game despite Capcom's departure from Marvel in 2013. At the end of that year, all "Marvel vs. Capcom" games were cancelled from Sony and Microsoft's online stores and Capcom hasn't renewed since. "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" happening in 2017 would be a game-changer, literally, given its reported changes.

Eurogamer reports that "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" could be launched on Sony's consoles exclusively, as Capcom has close ties with the company. An announcement of the next installment could happen during The PlayStation Experience on December 3, hopefully.
