Ever since the "WWE Cruiserweight Classic" ended a couple of months ago, the Cruiserweight division was struggling a lot on "WWE RAW." The light heavyweight wrestlers just did not get the right amount of time and attention they'd gotten in the tournament on the WWE Network. Until now, of course, with the advent of the weekly Cruiserweight-exclusive show on the Network, "205 Live."
Many of the mainstays of the "WWE Cruiserweight Classic" are featured front and center on "205 Live." Of course, you've obviously got your WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Brian Kendrick, his two contenders Rich Swann and first Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins. "WWE Cruiserweight Classic" finalist Gran Metalik is also around, as well as noted imports Akira Tozawa and Jack Gallagher, as well as Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, and the Bollywood Boyz, and Middle Eastern wrestlers Mustafa Ali and Ariya Daivari. Not present was Sin Cara, who had been making appearances in the Cruiserweight division on "WWE RAW."
The main event of the first "205 Live" saw Rich Swann successfully defeating Cruiserweight Champion The Brian Kendrick for the title in a hard-hitting match. Swann pinned Kendrick after three kicks to the face. It was the kind of match they hadn't been able to pull off on "WWE RAW" or any of the pay-per-view events, and it showed simply from the drama and how the audience reacted to it. After the match, Swann thanked his late mother, who was one of his inspirations to go out there and live his dream.
In other "205 Live" action, the Bollywood Boyz made their WWE main roster debut and defeated the team of Tony Nese and Drew Gulak. British chain wrestler Jack Gallagher also made his WWE main roster debut, defeating Ariya Daivari. Gallagher is poised to become one of the possible breakout stars of the revamped Cruiserweight division, at the rate he's going.
