Sony PlayStation 4 Latest News & Updates: Sony Launches PlayStation Communities App For Android & iOS, Helps PS4 Gamers Connect With Friends
Many companies have embraced the mobile landscape, and clearly Sony has jumped on the bandwagon with their very own app. Recently Sony has launched a new PlayStation Communities app for Google Android and Apple iOS.
Sony's new app allows players to join, interact and search for groups of PS4 gamers with similar gaming preferences by simply using their smartphones. In a sense, the app operates like forums that can be used to search for and find specific games, while also letting players post images and messages on the community wall. App members can also chat and opt to join in gaming parties for multiplayer games.
As described n the PlayStation US Blog, the PlayStation Communities App allows players to join new communities with the use of the app, and also provide recommendations, basing them from previously played games and highlights the communities that are currently trending. Players can also look into community profiles, and players can look at a list of communities that they've been a member of, and also see who in the community are in the same group as they are. This is something that could be very useful on a mobile device, rather than going on their console.
According to The Verge, the PlayStation Communities App has been released to complement Sony's PlayStation 4 console, which stands to be Sony's third piece of standalone mobile software for their flagship gaming console, right after the core PlayStation app back in 2013, and a dedicated PlayStation Messages app which was just released last year.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, Microsoft's Xbox One endeavor, where their own app keeps communicative tools inside their console's operating system, Sony's new take on the their gaming community seems to look app heavy and unnecessary. However, these apps have made communication on the PS4 easier.
