'Red Dead Redemption 2' VR Release Date, News & Update: Lead Designer Christian Cantamessa Discusses VR, Future Of Storytelling

There is a lot of excitement as to what "Red Dead Redemption 2" will present, especially after the release of its new teaser trailer. After years of waiting for the sequel, fans could experience a new kind of gameplay that will incorporate virtual reality (VR) into the upcoming title.

Gamers have been anticipating the release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" as the original installment was well-received. "Red Dead Redemption" allowed players to traverse all over the Wild West, accompanied by a fun roster of characters. With that, the highly-acclaimed game series is expected to bring a fresh gaming experience.

According to IGN, there has been talk about a VR option for the upcoming game, due to the growing popularity of VR gaming. Fans are hoping to see VR incorporated into "Red Dead Redemption 2," which could enhance the elements of the well-loved game series.

According to VentureBeat, lead designer and writer of the "Red Dead Redemption 2" Christian Cantamessa was able to share some insight about VR when he revealed that they decided to partner up with Start VR for new projects. He explained that VR will propel the storytelling capabilities into the future of gaming, which will allow players to experience a new kind of gameplay.

"Storytelling is the name of the game - no pun intended. The medium is the message. There are stories that just feel like they want to be games or movies and now I'm excited to tell new stories with this new VR format. We have a great tool, but we don't quite know what to do with it yet. I'm very excited to create new experiences as a sort of middle ground between triple-A video games and 360-degree panoramic film making," Cantamessa explained about "Red Dead Redemption 2."

Cantamessa also stated that he is looking forward to what the future holds for the gaming industry and hopes to continue bringing new ways of telling stories. However, he did not confirm any news regarding a possible VR option for "Red Dead Redemption 2." With that, fans will just have to wait for more updates on the upcoming game. "Red Dead Redemption 2" is expected to release sometime next year.
