With the recent reboot of the "Tomb Raider" game series back in 2013, fans already knew that perhaps a reboot of its film universe is not that far behind. In fact, it is already in the works and already have a release date schedule along with "Ex Machina" star Alicia Vikander officially announced as the new Lara Croft, it is safe to say that after more than a decade, fans and gamers will finally see" Tomb Raider" back in the big screen.
"The Tomb Raider" films are based on the game franchise, which followed archeologist Lara Croft, as she explores ancient ruins and tombs of the world looking for ancient artifacts. The series was first adapted into film, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," in 2001, starring Angelina Jolie who also starred in the 2003 sequel "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life."
Shifting back to the upcoming "Tomb Raider" reboot, needless to say that the "Ex Machina" actress with director Roar Uthuag has some pretty big shoes to fill. As Cinemablend reports, game developer Rich Briggs expressed his confidence in Vikander and Uthuag to deliver a new take on the dual pistol wielding heroine.
Speaking of a new take, in an interview with Hey U guys, film producer Graham King gave hints as to what will the upcoming reboot be in terms of plot. It will take its inspiration on its game counterpart. The upcoming "Tomb Raider" film reboot center around a young Lara Croft and her quest to find her father.
In addition, he states that by taking the origin story route, for the upcoming "Tomb Raider" reboot will allow fans to know the character in a much deeper manner. He also hopes that by doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that will allow the film to stand on its own two feet. The upcoming "Tomb Rider "reboot is scheduled for release on March 16, 2018.
