ControlCraft 3 for iOS: Are you any good with numbers? [REVIEW]

Cybernate’s latest offering – ControlCraft 3 is basically real-time strategy title that is impressive to the eyes with its fluid graphics and dedicated gameplay mechanics. However, the game’s aim is to keep track of numbers and managing units as resources in order to capture control points across a map. And all that focus on numbers all the time can be a really frustrating engagement, and so is ControlCraft 3.

ControlCraft 3 allows players command their troops to attack enemy control points, while making use of a wide array of troops and tactical abilities. The game is said to require tactical decisions (I’m yet to find any) related to attacking your opponent’s camp if you stand any chance of winning the war. There are also about 48 diverse levels in the game with five different super weapons.

Getting into the game, it seems quite simple when you first enter a level where players are needed to kick off with a customary number of unit-producing control points. These points are important if the player is to conquer all enemy control points with already conquered points automatically generating units in favor of the player. The number of units available in any control point will always be displayed as a number on that point.

Players will need to tap and drag a path on the screen stretching from one control point to another to move desired number of units. Once done, the desired set of troops will head over from point A to point B.

The game’s control scheme seems quite balanced with it serving as the core mechanic of the game. Moreover, while you are on the verge of completing the campaign, there is also the option to change your overall policies going into a different level, and that can be done by customizing your army’s operations with the help of upgrades and power-ups, which, obviously, you have to purchase within the game.

Everything depends on how you want to strategize while allocating your troops to different areas in the map. If you are willing to move large number of troops in a single go, you run the risk of losing your existing control point with not enough troops left to defend it. However, if you choose the other way round, it may get too difficult for you in the long run – again, everything troop oriented.

Sadly enough, that’s all there is in the game. The game may feel easy when you first install it and start playing it, but when the difficulty starts going up, the game can feel frustrating. Even after you purchase add-ons and upgrades, it may seem like a certain level is taking almost ages to finish while you commit yourself to some worthy mental math. And then there comes a time when you give up – both on the math and the game.

ControlCraft 3, to be very frank, just looks good. But then when you enter into the real deal, things may not seem so good after all. It may be fun for a while but then you lose interest nearly as fast as you hit that install button in the start.

Just remember that old saying: Just because it’s free, doesn’t mean you need to install it.
