Will It Be Game Over for ‘Call of Duty’ as ‘Overwatch’ is Now Rising Above the Competition?

Although "Call of Duty" has been a household name for all gamers, it looks like everything is about to change. As its sales have plummeted since its latest release, "Call of Duty is dying" has spread all throughout social media.

According to Digital Trends, "Call of Duty" isn't as engaging as it once did. It's weak sales figures and less enthusiastic response to its debut from the gamers, people are starting wonder if the game franchise will soon come to its end.

Although there had been no official comparison between the two, a previous report from Eurogamer about a month ago said that "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" only sold less than 50% compared with "COD: Black Ops 3" sales. "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" may have topped the UK charts in its first week, it wasn't able to meet the projected sales of the game regardless its company's massive marketing push.

Meanwhile, "Overwatch", garnered over 20 million players in just 5 months of its release. This may have a direct impact with "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" as both is considered to be the team-based multiplayer first-person shooter game.

With several newly released games and other updated franchise out in the market today, a lot of gamers certainly have so many things to choose from. This may be have caused "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's" sales to dwindle down. "Overwatch" offers its gamers a mixed of various heroes that are centered around a single objective. Although there isn't any proof that "Call of Duty" players is shifting to "Overwatch", players may have been looking for other COD- type games that offers a much more different gameplay.

"Call of Duty" is not the only shooting game that's struggling right now. "Battlefield" also wavered back and forth about the issues and sometimes not.
