The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – More revealed on customizations, comparisons with Skyrim

While we all rejoice that we have got hold of some top notch open world titles like the latest Grand Theft Auto 5, and the upcoming Watch Dogs, some of us have forgotten that the biggest ever open-world offering is arriving next year in the form of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Although the game still has some time before it finally arrives, the developer CD Projekt RED has made sure that the game’s popularity remains intact with regular interviews and more new revelations in the process.

On that note, Peter Gelencser, the company's Senior Level Designer recently spoke to Gamingbolt, where he reminded everyone that the biggest ever open-world offering is still on the way.

Despite fans drawing parallels, Gelencser feels that the game has hardly any similarity with Bethesda's own open world romp, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. “We have no comparison for that, to be honest. We only have our own game that we can actually measure. It’s supposed to be bigger than it, though,” he stated.

“Because we don’t create properties to be compared and to be based on other values. It should be good on its own. We are iterating, basically, the feedback we got on The Witcher 1 and 2. We want to make it comfortable and accessible and efficient for you guys. So it’s your game. That’s why it’s not like it’s better than Skyrim or better than something. It’s good for you and you like it, and that’s it.”

While stating that the game’s difference on PS4 and Xbox One versions will depend on individual hardware, Gelencser stated that there will be more animations this time that will be smoother compared to the previous titles in the series.

“It has to look nice and it will look nice. In terms of updation in the input. It’s a combination of feedback and features encountered in dedicated fighting games. So it’s like, you press a button, something happens. It’s straightforward, smooth, responsive and it gives you full control.”

It was also revealed that the team is trying to add customizable options for Geralt, for "items and equipment and all that. Other than that, we’re considering many possibilities, of course, and if we come to terms with any of them, we will probably feature them in one of our later presentations.”

On the probability of boss fights, apart from random encounters with in-game creatures, Gelencser turned down the possibility of boss fights in the Witcher’s world.

“The creatures you find and hunt for are basically the things that other games refer to as ‘bosses.’ But since we’re an open world and Geralt is a monster hunter, it’s kind of fitting that he actually hunts them down. So instead of having a corridor or a tower with levels, we have something that’s more open that you can approach from different directions and you can access these kinds of monsters and defeat them,” he added.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set for an arrival in the spring of 2014, is said to have a setting which is more than "30 times larger" than previous Witcher games. It was confirmed previously that the game won’t be featuring a multiplayer mode.
