Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was destined for next-gen consoles ‘years ago’

The last few months have been a funny time for game development, with companies not sure whether to release their games on current platforms, or wait around and develop titles for the next-gen systems. For most of us fans, the introduction of the next generation is a big thing when speaking in terms in game visuals, built-in horsepower and impressive graphical output. But it seems like Ubisoft had a plan all along for the Assassin's Creed brand and the next line of consoles.

In a recent interview with Examiner, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag's Director Ashraf Ismail confirmed that the company had already tagged the new Creed title as next-gen material years ago, and that the game’s introduction on the likes of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is not a recent development.

"When we started, it was a few years ago and we knew it was going to be on next-gen, so we knew we had to build a world that fresh and unique. Those were the words we used internally, fresh and unique," Ismail stated.

Additionally, when Examiner last spoke to Ubisoft about Assassin’s Creed 4 being developed for next gen consoles, Jean Guesdon of the Assassin’s Creed 4 team stated:

“We should never underestimate the power of graphic rendering. The power of the new consoles is just stunning and will allow us to display Assassin’s Creed as we really built it natively.”

Apart from the fact that Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is arriving for PC on Nov. 19, it was also previously revealed that fans now will be able to rate each mission in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag as they play along.

As told by Ubisoft to Eurogamer, the basic idea here “is to be able to get the input of our players on their appreciation of each mission." He further added that the “rating is anonymous and is sent to our servers to be analysed.”

“It's an idea that came out of discussions between our creative director Jean Guesdon and our executive producer Sebastien Puel. It was implemented early in the production, more than one year ago. It's also being used during our playtest sessions to gather the player's feedback," it was further stated.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is currently scheduled to release this October for Xbox 360, Wii U and PS3, with versions for PS4 and Xbox One arriving later.
