Remakes and Remasters of old video games is huge trend in today's console generation. It seems that every now and then a new announcement of a remake of an old but beloved game will be making waves on the internet. The latest of this trend is the remake of the Playstation 1 classic Crash Bandicoot Trilogy entitled Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy. And if gamers continue to buy remakes and makes Crash N.Sane Trilogy a success, expect a new Crash game to be remade. The next Crash game in line for a remake is most probably Crash Team Racing for the Playstation 4.
Crash Team Racing was released back in 1999 for the Playstation 1 and was considered a legitmate rival for the more popular Mario Kart series. Crash Team Racing was praised for its graphics, perfect controls and fun gameplay despite being a clone of Mario Kart. While it wasn't as popular as the main entries for the Crash Bandicoot series it was still beloved by a lot of people.
A remake of Crash Team Racing was already in the works in 2010. Supposedly, it was developed by High Impact Games with developers comprised of ex Naughty Dog members. There was already progress made for the game as several characters, stages, weapons and modes were already finished. The game however was cancelled for an undisclosed reason along with another Crash game in 2010. Parts of the game working are leaked in this youtube video.
Kart racing is one of the more enduring genres in video games as Mario Kart has proven. Mario Kart was first released back in 1992 and has appeared in every console Nintendo has made with each entry selling huge amounts of copies. In addition, different franchised have dabbled in the Kart racing genre with varying amounts of success. Playstation on the other hand, never had a hit Kart racing game since Crash Team Racing in Playstation 4. It would be wise for them to ride the wave Crash N.Sane Trilogy with a remake of Crash Team Racing.
Then again the fate of Crash Team Racing lies on the success of Crash N.Sane Trilogy. But with the overwhelmingly positive reaction the trilogy received, expect a remake of Crash Team Racing on Playstation 4 coming soon after.
