‘Legion’ Series Air Date, Characters & Plot: X-Men Spinoff Trailer Disappoints Viewers? Here’s why the Series Is More Whimsical than Action Packed

"Legion" TV Series trailer was revealed at the New York Comic Con in October which took place at the Javits Center in New York. The Marvel preview did not create much impact on the audience and this was probably because they were expecting some explosive action but not a single scene was shown.

Rather, the "Legion" trailer was described as whimsical by those who have seen it firsthand. The again, if the viewers felt that way after seeing the clip, then the series' producers have succeeded. This is because, they mentioned before that they wanted to give the show a surrealistic and more whimsical feel.

Moreover, Noah Hawley, the show's creator for FX TV, said in an interview with Vanity Fair, that most of the Marvel TV series and movies have already covered the action, with lots of flying, running and kicking, so he wants "Legion" to be more tamed and have a dreamlike quality instead. Most importantly, he believes that quirkiness of this Marvel series is the best way to interpret the main character's story.

Storyline

The "Legion" X-Men spin-off series is about a guy named David Haller. He is a troubled man, and possibly gifted. He is a patient at a psychiatric facility and believed to have schizophrenia. In his whole life, he hears voices and he cannot really tell whether they are real or just something in his head.

Some say that Haller's schizophrenia is actually a mutant gift, especially because he was identified as X-Men's Professor X's son in the original Marvel comic book. Perhaps, in "Legion," Haller was only made to believe that he is mentally ill because powerful people do not want him to discover about his superhuman abilities.

Characters

Aside from Dan Stevens, Marvel shared that FX's "Legion" will also star Rachel Keller, Jeremie Harris, Jean Smart, Bill Irwin, Amber Midthunder, Aubrey Plaza and Katie Aselton. Plaza will play as Lenny, David Haller's best friend and fellow psych ward patient.

Air Date

Finally, "Legion" has been scheduled to premiere on FX Network on Feb. 8, 2017. It was also confirmed that the series will only run for a total of eight episodes for its first season.
