‘Alto’s Adventure’ Latest News & Update: Alto Continues His Journey In ‘Alto’s Odyssey’; Coming In 2017; Details Revealed

"Alto's Adventure," the popular endless runner snowboarding video game that debuted in 2015, is getting a sequel in the coming year. On Wednesday, Dec. 7, video game developer Snowman announced "Alto's Odyssey," the follow-up to Alto's snowboarding adventure.

"Alto's Adventure," which was initially released only for iOS, has quickly risen to become one of the best games ever made for mobile devices. In February 2016, the game was made available for Android for free. In July, it was also released for Windows. The "Alto's Adventure" gameplay involves a player-character chasing after his runaway llamas by snowboarding down snowy mountains rendered in an ethereal atmosphere. In June, a Zen Mode update that allowed for endless, stress-free gameplay with no scoring involved, was released.

"For almost the last two years, nothing has been more humbling for us than to see fans play and enjoy 'Alto's Adventure,'" Snowman said in a recent blog post announcing "Alto's Odyssey." "From kind emails and social media messages to fan art beyond our wildest expectations, it's meant so much for us to see everyone connect with Alto and friends."

"But the time has come for something new," the developer added. "The next adventure awaits now, just beyond the horizon." The announcement included a teaser image for "Alto's Odyssey," as well as a link to the sequel's website. Based on the image and the website, it looks as though "Alto's Odyssey" will have a much larger scope than "Alto's Adventure." The image hints at a new location and features mountaintop castle-like structures, birds, and even hot-air balloons.

The Verge notes that "Alto's Adventure" director Ryan Cash and artist/programmer Harry Nesbitt appear to be behind "Alto's Odyssey" as well. No other details about "Alto's Odyssey" have been released apart from a 2017 release window.
