Battlefield 4's Commander App Now Live on iPad

Battlefield 4's Official Commander App Ready to Go With UAVs, Second Screen Support, and More

EA is the newest company to introduce the second screen mobile support similarly to Ubisoft and Activision. According to reports, EA and DICE has released a brand new Battlefield 4 Commander app for the iPad.

Confirming that the app will require at least iPad 2 or up, alongside iPad Mini with iOS 6.1 and up to run the app successfully on the mobile tablet, the company wrote on its official page: “You’ve been enjoying Commander Mode on your PC and console, deploying war assets and issuing commands to your Battlefield 4 team mates.”

“Now, the power of command extends to tablets as we release the Battlefield 4 Commander app! Thanks to a slick interface and intuitive touch controls, the app will give you the full Commander experience on the go.”

The app is eligible for anyone with a copy of the game and an active soldier at rank 10 or higher, irrespective of what platform it’s running on. The company says that players “can select specific servers to join through the Battlelog app.”

“Simply go into Multiplayer, select a server, and join using the ‘Commander’ button. This will automatically launch the Commander app and join the server.”

The new Battlefield 4 Tablet Commander app, the exclusive companion app to the game on tablet (the other Battlelog app is only better for checking out stats), will allow users to strategize beforehand alongside deploying war assets, and manage squad-based team play on the go.

Players can also call in UAVs to scan the area for enemy activity, or jam their radar using EMP, alongside the option to send vehicles and supplies to squads on the ground to give them an edge over the enemy.

The app will also help communicate between members of teams directly via full VOIP on supported platforms. The app just works like the feature on PC or console, and since it loads on its own actual engine and not the Frostbite engine, it loads pretty quickly.

As far as visuals are concerned, it seems like it’s a 2D interface and there might be a bit of grudge among fans who would like to zoom in on the soldiers similar to PC and consoles. However, that doesn’t matter a great deal since it’s still easy to figure out what’s happening inside the game with seamless drag-and-drop interface.

The Battlefield 4 Tablet Commander app is currently available on iTunes for free. The app will hit Android tablets later this month.
