With rumors of cancellation hitting shows one by one, "House of Cards" Season 5 is the latest victim. The speculations have started when showrunner Beau Willimon revealed the current creative team of the hit series is having a hard time with the political plot after his exit last year.
Showrunner's Exit
Last year, Beau Willimon tendered his resignation from the series. Willimon is actually the show's creator, former executive producer, and screenwriter. His departure from the hit Netflix political series is blamed on internal creative disputes. In its four-year run, "House of Cards" has received nothing but positive reviews backed up by its awards and nominations. After "House of Cards" Season 4 though, Willimon exited from the show. So, is "House of Cards" Season 5 already cancelled?
Season 5 Cancelled?
As Willimon had revealed, as is with other shows, the ultimate fate of "House of Cards" is left hanging after each season concludes. This then means that the creative direction of the show has been passed on to a new set of production team. "House of Cards" Season 5 is now spearheaded by Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese as executive producers.
The latest rumor regarding "House of Cards" Season 5 is that the show might eventually be cancelled in 2017 as the creative team is already running out of juice. Even some of the cast has claimed that the plot of "House of Cards" Season 5 has already lost its track in dealing with real politics.
Many reports stated that the plot of "House of Cards" Season 5 has been described as antiquated, uninteresting, and charmless. With this, though, Netflix has not released any official word regarding the speculations.
In another, opposing news, however, it has been reported that "House of Cards" Season 5 has already been confirmed by Netflix, but would be the last season for Kevin Spacey should the show be renewed for another installation. A February 2017 release date has also been foreseen by many of the show's fans.
