‘Death Stranding’ Release Date, News & Update: Hideo Kojima Talks ‘Groundbreaking’ Game Engine; Strands' Meaning Revealed

"Death Stranding" may be one of the highly-anticipated gaming titles set to hit PS4 consoles in the near future. Recently, Hideo Kojima and Guerrilla Games' Hermen Mulst unveiled some interesting information about the game's engine and other details.

When "Death Stranding" was unveiled during the 2016 E3 conference, avid gamers were impressed with the trailer's visual quality and its haunting yet intriguing images. The recently released teaser clip for Kojima's game continued to feature stunning graphic, as well as scenes that hinted of the game's potential storyline.

Moreover, players can expect the actual game to look even better than the scenes shown in the trailers, according to Kojima. The famed Japanese game designer made the revelation during an interview with IGN where he talked about the game's engine, as well as his collaboration with Guerrilla Games.

Kojima shared that they used a different game engine in the E3 "Death Stranding" trailer, as well as the clip previewed during the 2016 Game Awards. Running in 4K on PS4 Pro, the latest teaser for the upcoming game used Guerrilla Games' rendering engine.

The game designer mentioned how Guerrilla Games' engine fit the requirements that they were looking for to develop "Death Stranding." Kojima explained, "Their engine is well suited to the tools and systems of an open-world game. This was a very important aspect for us."

Known as Decima, the said game engine was even described as a "groundbreaking" rendering tool by Kojima during his interview with Redbull. In comparing Guerrilla Games' "Horizon: Zero Dawn" which the Japanese game designer complimented for its "fantastic artistic vision," he revealed that he is looking to use a "very photorealistic style" for "Death Stranding."

Meanwhile, Kojima may have remained silent about the storyline for "Death Stranding, however, Guerrilla Games' managing director Mulst unveiled some of the game's secrets. In an interview with the same news outlet, one of the details he shared revealed the meaning behind the black strands or ropes that appeared in the game's trailers.

Mulst mentioned that the said black ropes are called "strands in psychology" since the game's story is focused on connections. He also revealed how "Death Stranding" will include a "unique" co-op gaming experience, aside from a single player mode.

"Death Stranding" is set for a PS4 exclusive release. Watch the game's latest trailer below:
