After setting records as the most pre-ordered game for Microsoft's next-gen Xbox One console, Call of Duty: Ghosts, is charting the tops yet again.

A new press release is out from publisher Activision claiming that its latest FPS is now the most played Xbox One multiplayer game in the world.

"Around the globe, Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. It's the #1 selling title at key retailers and it's also the most played game on Xbox One and PS4 globally," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "As we've said before, we've got the best community of fans in the world and we're thrilled they're coming with us to the next generation."

Additionally, the release also marks the game as number one in the following categories:

#1 Most Played Xbox One Multiplayer Game Worldwide
#1 Top Selling Xbox One Title at Leading North American Retailers
#1 Xbox One Standalone Software Title in U.K.

"As home to the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community, it is no surprise that the newest entry in the blockbuster franchise has quickly become the most played multiplayer game on both Xbox One and Xbox 360", said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing & Strategy, Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "We congratulate our partners at Activision and Infinity Ward and are proud to continue offering the best and most engagingCall of Duty online experience to our fans globally by launching all Call of Duty: Ghosts map packs first only on Xbox."

But it's not just doing well on the Xbox One. Ghosts also happens to be the most played game on Sony's own next-gen console, the PlayStation 4. It also has bragging rights as the top selling game for the console in North America.

Despite the Xbox One's launching only days ago, already more than 1 billion multiplayer matches have been played in the game. Players have Prestiged more than 2.2 million times, earning over 3.3 trillion Experience Points (XP), according to internal gameplay statistics.

It also looks like Infinity Ward has some holiday cheer up its merry sleeve for this Christmas.

While peeking through the game's files, YouTuber Ali-A found some Christmas themed camos for some of the game's arsenal. Granted, it may have you stick out like a sore thumb, but just like the holiday, it's the thought that counts, right?

Developer Infinity Ward hasn't commented on when the camos will be available, but with Christmas just around the corner, it shouldn't be too long. Check out the Ali-A's video below where he talks about the camo, and a picture to show the awful Christmas sweater look of it.

Call of Duty: Ghosts takes place in a near future following an attack from space that leaves Los Angeles virtually wiped out, and the United States' infrastructure devastated. Years later, the country is invaded by a new superpower, a conglomerate of South American nations calling itself the "Federation." What's left of America's special forces have come together to form the titular "Ghosts," and it's up to them to wage guerrilla warfare against the Federation in order to protect what remains of the United States, and drive the Federation out.

Beyond the campaign, the game's multiplayer mode, which promises a slew of different customization options for weapons, character camos, and more. Over 30 new weapons are included alongside old favorites like the UMP45 and the M4A1.

Despite not the best reviews ever for a Call of Duty game, Ghosts was a hit right out of the gate.

Players are able to peek around cover while still being able to fire, automatically mantle objects, and customize their character. Players are also able to activate environmental hazards, rather than the hazards automatically activating without player interference. It will also allow players to do some hidden sub-missions which will result in new twists in the campaign storyline.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out now for PC, PS3 and PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and Nintendo's Wii U.
