NBA News: Kobe Bryant Gives Carmelo Anthony Advice on How to Deal with Phil Jackson

It’s no secret that New York Knicks President Phil Jackson likes to take to the media to send messages to his players. He did it to Michael Jordan, he did it to Shaquille O’Neal, he even went at length about Kobe Bryant in one of his books. More recently, his latest star Carmelo Anthony has been the subject of his comments to the media. And now it seems the star forward has gotten some advice about how to understand Jackson from none other than Bryant.

“Me and Kobe have countless conversations about that,” Carmelo Anthony told reporters before the New York Knicks’ Sunday game against the Los Angeles Lakers. “That’s something I’ve learned over the years, especially with Phil. [Jackson’s] going to talk. Nobody can stop that. So try not top read into it too much,” Anthony said of the advice Kobe Bryant gave him about his boss. Anthony also told reporters that he and Phil Jackson had a short meeting Saturday to clear the air. “I’m pretty sure I might be in a book. Maybe a couple of books,” Anthony kiddingly added.

Last week, Phil Jackson made some comments regarding Carmelo Anthony’s tendency to hold on to the ball for longer than the legendary coach would like. When asked about Jackson’s comments following the New York Knicks’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Anthony was visibly annoyed, saying that he didn’t even know what was said and that he “doesn’t want to get into it.”

He also posted a couple of tweets that appeared to be directed at Phil Jackson, posting a photo of himself with the caption, “EGO is the only requirement to destroy any relationship. So, be a BIGGER person, skip the ‘E’ and let it ‘GO’ #StayMe7o.” The tweet fueled rumors that Carmelo Anthony was unhappy with the suddenly surging New York Knicks. But winning has a way of fixing things, as the Knicks have win seven of their last 10 games.
