'We Happy Few' Clockwork Update Latest News: New Tutorial Area, Conversation System, Quest State System and Refactored Encounters

Compulsion Games recently featured a major patch for "We Happy Few," called the Clockwork Update. "We Happy Few" launched on Steam Early Access and GOG's Games In Development in July 2016 and the new update is expected to usher more interested gamers.

About 'We Happy Few'

Game Reactor revealed that "We Happy Few" is a survival horror game set in Wellington Wells, a fictional English city with a dystopian society on an alternate timeline during the 1960s. The residents of the city in "We Happy Few," started consuming a drug called "Joy," which gives them happiness and the chance to forget the horrors of the past.

However, the drug also makes them highly vulnerable. "We Happy Few" players control a character who decided to stop using "Joy," and has to survive from the looming social collapse caused by the drug.

"We Happy Few" is played from a first-person view, mixing survival, RPG and rogue elements. The game boasts of great visuals and a very British approach in terms of style and execution.

"We Happy Few" Clockwork Update

Compulsion stated that the Clockwork Update in "We Happy Few" presented a new tutorial area, conversation system and revised quest, among others. The new patch provided a number of technical systems, as well as addressed the gap between the intro and the start of the game by featuring a new shelter, which should explain how Arthur ended up in his current situation.

The "We Happy Few" Clockwork Update also added various bug fixes. The new Quest State System in "We Happy Few" altered quest tracking to a code-based system, from its previous scripting-based system.

Compulsion explained that more focus on gameplay and making unique features can be done with the new system and it will be easier for them to create encounters. "We Happy Few" also acquired a new save system, which should provide faster and improved save and load times.

A number of encounters were refactored by re-implementing these with the new puppet, quest state systems and conversation. The Clockwork Update in "We Happy Few also brought improved realization with better animation, map markers and tool tips.

There were also adjustments made to the environments, user interface and gameplay. More updates and details on "We Happy Few" are expected soon.
