NBA Rumors: Pacers, Pistons working on a blockbuster Paul George trade?

The Indiana Pacers have been underwhelming this season after making several moves to make them legitimate playoff contenders. The result of it is Pacers superstar Paul George getting linked to many trade rumors including a blockbuster deal with the Detroit Pistons.

Pacers team president Larry Bird started their offseason by firing head coach Frank Vogel and naming Nate McMillan as the new head coach. He then acquired Jeff Teague and Thaddeus Young before signing Al Jefferson to bolster the bench.

However, they have been inconsistent this season while also struggling to stay healthy. It has led to one trade rumor suggesting a deal wherein the Pacers trade Paul George and Monta Ellis to the Pistons in exchange for three players and three draft picks.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Pistons are going to trade Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Tobias Harris, Stanley Johnson and three first-round picks. It is a big deal that will give Detroit a combination of Paul George, Andre Drummond, and Reggie Jackson.

The report added that the Pistons moving out of The Palace of Auburn Hills and into the new arena in downtown Detroit gives them a great reason to pull off the trade. On the other hand, it gives the Pacers young assets but it is against Bird's vision of becoming NBA contenders.

However, the trade rumor was immediately killed by Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy. In an interview with Michigan Live, Van Gundy expressed his displeasure with the rumor and invited the one who started it to talk to him.

"I love sports. Like somebody thinks of an idea, and then they write it into an article as if they've really got a source. I'd like to know the source is, because that guy should talk to us," Van Gundy said.

It is not the first time a crazy rumor involving an NBA superstar popped up this season. Earlier this season, Klay Thompson was speculated to be going to the Boston Celtics when Brian Scalabrine talked about it during his radio show.
