BMW has revealed that it will launch a new version of its 5-Series executive saloon in 2017. This will be the seventh generation of the German trademark's mid-sized saloon. The next 5 Series' design is indisputably more evolutionary than revolutionary. That is, it promises aperfect balance of elegant luxury, classic style and, of course, sporty performance.

BMW 5-Series 2017 Specs: Advanced Innovations For Performance

A host of state-of-the-art driving technology keeps the driver in control of the 5 Series. Adaptive LED headlights, a full-color head-up display and the lane departure warning lightly vibrate the steering wheel if driver drifts from the desired lane. No detail has been overlooked in the cabin, which offers premium Nappa leather, warranting connectivity with an iDrive system, writes Car and Driver.

The BMW 520d is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 140kW and 400Nm. It claims a fuel economy figure is 4.3L/100km, with a claim of 0-100km/h time of 7.5 seconds. The BMW 530i makes use of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 185kW and 350Nm and can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.

In addition, the BMW 530d presents the most torque in the range -- from its 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine boosting out a massive 620Nm, as well as a very healthy 195kW. BMW claims a 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds and a fuel economy of 4.7L/100km on the combined cycle.

The series topper for now, which BMW claims it will go from zero to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds and lists fuel figures of 6.7L/100km, is the BMW 540i. This uses the familiar engine from the 340i, which is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 250kW and 450Nm.
