Mega Man The Board Game Gets Kickstarter Campaign

Mega Man's Latest Adventure is a Kickstarter Board Game?

Right now on Kickstarter there's an official Mega Man Board Game vying for your money. They were asking for $70,000 to produce the game but have already blown way past that point- as of this writing they have over 1,400 backers and $172,000 raised.

Now this is a premium board game with cool little plastic miniatures and plenty of cardboard chits, and the price reflects it. Donating $70 gives you the base game ($60 if you're an early backer) and although they really want you to back at $140. That level of backer gives you the deluxe bundle that comes with an expansion, art print and proto man, plus all of the stretch goals. If you're not familiar with Kickstarter, if the campaign reaches a certain amount above the goal they pledge to improve the game's components and add a bunch of goodies. For example, at $180k they unlock a Guts Man expansion for the game and at 500k they will offer fully colored miniatures. That's very likely to happen - as of this writing they've raised 171k and have 37 days to go. This is huge and on track to become one of the most successful tabletop games ever crowdfunded.

This is a list of all the components that will come with the base game.

The Mega Man Core Game:

  • 4 Pre-Constructed Player Decks (40 cards per deck)
  • 4 Mega Man Game Pieces
  • 4 Robot Master Game pieces (Trophies)
  • 1 Dr. Wily Game piece
  • 4 Game Boards for the Robot Masters
  • 1 Dr. Wily main board
  • 4 Mega Man Character Card Life Meters
  • 12 Stage Tokens for each Robot Master
  • 20 Stage Tokens for Dr. Wily
  • Mega Man The Board Game Rule book
  • 4 of each Robot Master boss cards
  • 4 Mega Man Character cards

There's all kinds of additions you can add to your pledge too if you so desire. As for the game itself, it's seeking to replicate the side-scrolling feel of the popular series. You'll fight bosses and gain their powers, all the way to a final fight against Dr. Wily. You'll be trying to stop your friends from doing that before you do, taking control of the boss robots and using cards against them to slow their progress.

"Mega Man the Board Game is a 2-8 player "Side Scrolling" board game. Our team wanted to develop a game that has both the feeling of a single player Mega Man game and the excitement and interaction of a party game. After years of testing the game mechanics, we found a way to capture the experience of playing a Mega Man game while adding a new element unique to our board game: players will both control their character and, for the first time, control Dr. Wily's forces as you impede the progress of other players."

Check the Mega Man The Board Game Kickstarter page for more details and to make your own pledge, although you can already expect this to hit stores around October of next year regardless- it's already raised the money.
