Apple iOS 10.2 Release Date, News & Update: Shrug, Facepalm, Selfie & More; Why Are We Obsessed With Emojis?

Apple has released iOs 10.2 to the general public today. While the update offers a load of kinks including new wallpapers, a new TV app and others, it's pretty obvious most iPhone users only care about this one but important update: the new and redesigned emojis - and there are over 100 of them. What gives?

Apple iOS 10.2's Emojis Redefined What Pictures Used To Say

Remember the old adage, "A picture is worth a thousand words?" You can forget about that. Today's generation believe in an emoji says a thousand words. And with the Apple iOS 10.2's over 100 emojis, your text message could well amount to a Swiss bank account, or two.

"Emoji are a great way to add personality to a text-based conversation," said Jeremy Burge, the founder of website Emojipedia. Come to think of it, today's generation that's been blessed with Apple's iOS 10.2 has an encyclopedia cataloguing all sorts of emoji.

Generation quick texters find it easier to send one tiny emoji than typing up a lengthy response. Sure, we can't be all eloquent, but in the world we're living in today, everything needs to be conveyed immediately, even if it means choosing among Apple's iOS 10.2 emojis.

Apple iOS 10.2 Update: The Psychology Behind Emoji Obsession

Dr. Owen Churches of the school of psychology at Flinders University in Australia conducted a study on emoticons in 2014. His research showed that people reacted to emoticons the same way they would react to a real human face.

According to The Telegraph, Churches said that emoji are similar to human faces from a vision of perspective. "I would expect the response of face sensitive parts of the cortex to emoji would be very similar to that of real faces," the professor explained. What this implies is, your choice of Apple iOS 10.2 emojis makes your message more personal than just being a digital cartoon on a screen.

In a way, emoji encompass our culture. Our brain has learned to adapt their popularity so in effect, we respond to these stimuli. What left for all us to do now is to dig in. Go ahead and put that heart eyes next to an astronaut next to the Apple iOS 10.2 newly revived peach butt. Whatever that means is entirely up to you.
