'The Fate of the Furious' Release Date, News & Updates: Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto Being Blackmailed by Charlize Theron's Cipher?

The trailer for the eighth installment of "The Fast and the Furious" franchise has been revealed recently. The promotional video already showcased a lot of action scenes and big set pieces with which the movie franchise has always been known. The biggest question that fans are asking regarding "The Fate of the Furious" is why Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) betrayed his family.

The first few scenes of the promotional clip for "The Fate of the Furious" already offered impressive action scenes wherein a huge wrecking ball destroyed all the cars that were chasing Dom's group. Another jaw-dropping moment in the video was the appearance of the submarine out of nowhere and the group of Hobbs (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) would have to deal with that. However, the driving plot of the upcoming film is why Dom Toretto turned his back against his family.

The character of Vin Diesel has always been known to put his family and friends first no matter what even though if it cost him his life. Dom has already been through a lot of ups and downs with the members of his group especially Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). Based on reports, there is a possibility that Dom is being blackmailed by the new main antagonist of "The Fate of the Furious," Cipher (Charlize Theron).

There are suggestions that Brian, the character of late Paul Walker and Mia (Jordana Brewster) may be in danger due to a threat by Cipher. With this, Dom may be forced to work under the new main villain. However, this is also unlikely since the two characters have already left the movie franchise and may be living a happy life. Another theory that is driving Dom to those actions in "The Fate of the Furious" is that Cipher may have some dirt against Letty or the other members of his group.

According to reports, "The Fate of the Furious" is spearheaded by F. Gary Gray who also directed "Straight Outta Compton." The film is slated to hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
