It didn't turn out as expected. The first global mission for Pokémon Sun and Moon was a failure after global players failed to catch 100 million Pokémon's in two weeks' time. Of the target, gamers only reached over 16.4 million accumulated catch worldwide, according to the event organizer.
In a statement posted on its website, Japan-based Game Freak, maker of Nintendo's famous Pokémon game, said the result of the worldwide hunt was a failure. It said that the unreached goal was attributed to the failure of some players to understand that they need to register their catch on a website for those to be counted.
The craze started after Game Freak challenged all Pokémon Sun and Moon players from around the world to catch 100 million critters from November 29 to December 12. The global challenge offers each participant a 1,000 Festival Coins as a reward when the mission is achieved.
Amid the hype of the event, participants only caught just above 16 percent of their 100 million targets. Unfortunately, the goal to catch a lot of Pokémon's was not reached but all who registered their participation in this global Pokémon craze will receive 100 Festival Coins, according to Game Freak.
Amid failure of the first attempt to reach a historic height in Pokémon hunting, Game Freak said that it will launch another global Pokémon event before the end of December. To participate, players are required to register their Game Sync ID at the Pokémon Global Link. The online registration will help the game keep a real-time update at the Festival Plaza as to how many creatures were already caught worldwide.
"While 100,000,000 may seem like a paralyzingly insurmountable number to catch, remember, it's a collective thing-so if enough people participate, it hopefully shouldn't be too difficult to achieve," Game Freak pointed out. Watch the video teaser of Pokemon Sun and Moon here:
