Sony to Shut Down Resistance, Gran Turismo 5 Online Multiplayer in 2014

Sony Makes Plans to Shut Down Online Multiplayer for Resistance Series, Gran Turismo, SOCOM

It's time to face the cold hard reality of console multiplayer games- as we move to the next generation of gaming the servers for the old games are taken down. It just doesn't make sense for Sony keep up the multiplayer for PS3 games when it has to focus on the PS4- servers cost money and if no one's playing the games anymore, why pay for them? So Sony has announced that they have plans to shut down the online multiplayer components for a number of popular PS3 titles. These changes are coming up shortly in 2014, right from the beginning of the year. Prepare to shed a tear for all the old game experiences you once had...

Actually, it's already begun. Downloadable title Pain was already taken offline in November with no warning, the online multiplayer component now useless. The game was always better with a group of giggling friends sitting on your couch as you launhed poor people to their deaths, so at least it's not a huge loss.

But here's the full list of games that are going down. The dates are all pretty close and this arrived with barely any notice, so if you wish to play these games one more time you better get on it ASAP!

January 28th, 2014- MAG, SOCOM: Special Forces, and SOCOM:Confrontation go offline. MAG and SOCOM: Confrontation are multiplayer-only and thus will not be playable anymore in any way, shape, or form.

March 28th, 2014 - Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3 are taken offline. Their single-player campaigns will still work but their multiplayer modes (including the amazing co-op portions of Resistance 2) won't be played ever again. Considering that Resistance 2 has quite possibly the best co-op mode of any shooter before or since, this hurts. All we're left with is a standard shooter..

May 20th, 2014 - Gran Turismo 5 crashes and burns. This one hurts less though because Gran Turismo 6 will be out by then.

Check Sony's site for a full list of titles that are already offline, both PS2 and PS3 titles, and wonder if anyone even realized that Buzz!: Quiz-TV or Lord of the Rings: Conquest were decomissioned.
