Left 4 Dead Designers Unveil Evolve

Turtle Rock Studios Shows Off Evolve in Latest Issue of Game Informer

Game Informer had been teasing a big story for the last few days, and today, they've deliviered. Turtle Rock, who you might recognize as the team behind Valve's critically acclaimed zombie FPS series, Left 4 Dead, has been hard at work on another shooter, Evolve.

The game is the cover story of the mag's latest issue, for which the developer shared a few details with the GI staff in a sneak-peek on the game.

Turtle Rock had been working on the game for the last few years, and as of 2011, THQ was going to publish it. But like so many other games, when THQ went belly up almost a year ago, Turtle Rock needed a new publisher. Enter Take Two, which not only secured rights for future WWE games, but Evolve along with it.

It's early, but like Call of Duty has traded zombies for monsters, it looks like Turtle Rock has followed suit. If you want the full details on the game, you'll have to buy the issue, but here's what GI has teased so far:

"The sci-fi multiplayer-focused shooter pits a four-player crew of alien hunters against a separate player-controlled monster that grows larger and more powerful over the course of matches. Each hunter features its own unique items and abilities, and while the monster may be outnumbered, its size and an assortment of devastating attacks make it a more than formidable foe. Like Turtle Rock's previous titles, Evolve is being built with variety and replayabilty in mind; the result is a novel mix of cooperative and competitive multiplayer elements that's unlike anything we've played before."

Within the issue are the sort of things you might expect: details on the hunters, the monsters, and the weapons used to bring 'em down. The game is scheduled to arrive on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 this fall. Print subscribers should be seeing their issue in the mailbox in the next few days, but it'll be available to digital subscribers later today on PC or Mac, iPad, Android, and Google Play. GI also writes that the latest issue hits Nook, Kindle, and Zinio tomorrow.
