Originally set to launch this holiday season, Sony's latest premium gaming headset, the Platinum Wireless Headset will finally hit the market on Jan. 12, 2017. It will cost $159.99 (MSRP), or $199.99 in Canada.
According to PlayStation blog post, the Platinum Wireless Headset sports an improved and highly positional 7.1 virtual surround sound using PlayStation's 3D audio technology. It is also compatible with PlayStation VR as well as mobile devices using the 3.5 mm audio cable that comes with the headset.
The Platinum Wireless Headset sports a hidden noise-cancelling mic, which provides crisp and clear transmission without having to add a boom mic. Its top-quality construction and design offers durability, style and extreme comfort perfect for gamers who play for hours.
Additionally, Naughty Dog will be the first to integrate 3D audio support on the Platinum Wireless Headset for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" including a patch for the game, reports GameSpot. Numerous impending games will also support 3D audio, which includes "MLB The Show 17," "Days Gone" and "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" with more games to arrive.
A YouTube video shows how the test for the Platinum Wireless Headset went for the "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" where Drake was in the attic and Elena called him from downstairs. With the 3d audio support for the game, Elena is heard calling from underneath, which improves the engagement of the scene, according to director Neil Druckmann.
