The Vita has been out for two years now but it hasn't changed a bit in the US. The 3DS has new colors, all sorts of limited editions, even those fantastic 3DS XL models, but the Vita trudges on as usual- except for the sexy White Vita. This model was previously only available in Japan but today we learned that it's suddenly popped up for sale by itself on Amazon. The "Crystal White" edition of the PS Vita is available for $199 on Amazon right now and it comes with no fanfare- no announcement of any kind from Sony, for that matter.
It's the same exact system as the black one but won't you feel special knowing that you're a little bit different than everyone else?
Note that Sony still hasn't made any mention of a US release of the redesigned "Slim" PS Vita that hit Japan a few months ago. That version sports a rounder frame, improved buttons, a mini-usb port instead of its own dedicated (that would make things so much easier!), but it's missing the incredible OLED screen and apparently is a bit slower. It comes with a gig of memory built into it, though, giving you further confusion about which one to buy. But how could you trade in that bright and beautiful OLED screen- easily one of the best features of the system- for a regular ol' LCD screen? The older version still seems like the best for that reason alone.
The Vita is still trailing the 3DS in sales by quite a margin but it's fast becoming a real behemoth for gamers, particularly fans of indie games. Tons of acclaimed games (Hotline Miami, Spelunky, Proteus, etc.) are getting stellar mobile versions and when you combine that with a PS Plus membership, which currently offers you Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD, and new free games to download every month- well, you've got an incredible little gaming machine that puts its big brothers to shame.
The White Vita was previously available but only as part of the liimited edition Assassin's Creed Liberation pack that's currently selling for twice the price- this is the first time it's been on sale by itself. It seems like there are only a limited number of them available on Amazon right now so get going if you want one of these fancy colors.
