'Battlefield 1' Latest News & Update: 'Battlefield 1' December Update Has Everything New; Spectator Mode, Balance, Aims Assists & More

The second big patch for "Battlefield 1" is available out today on all platforms. Alike to the November patch, this one is loaded with new features, balance changes, and fixes.

"Battlefield 1" December Patch New Features

The patch infused a free map, Giant's Shadow. Starting December 13, Premium members and Pre-order customers can play it. All the rest can join and enjoy the game on December 20. Aside from the new map, the patch also added the much-anticipated Spectator Mode, packed with the capability to connect to servers as a spectator. Standard Issue Rifles, which is the game's latest custom game mode has also been added and has started to go live since December 13.

"Battlefield 1" December Patch Changes

With regard to changes, they are quite immense and comprehensive. Firstly, the soldier movement has been improved, now you can have them sprint out of the crouch and prone. Soldier controls are also more responsive now, according to DICE. Another mechanic that has seen some twists is Aim assist. It will now only kick in if the player is vigorously giving aim input. This avoids occasions where crosshairs trail an aim you were firing at. In addition, you can now tweak single aim details like the dead zone.

"Battlefield 1 December" Patch Fixes

The update has brought together a fix for an issue that sometimes spawns you as a Pilot, Tanker, or Cavalry without the appropriate vehicle. This should also avert spawning into vehicles with incorrect kits.

As for the tanks, previously it was possible to fire over objects your tank turret cannot go over by going into third-person view; otherwise known as head-glitching. This problem has been fixed now, and both perspectives now report the same viewpoint. According to Reddit, the Landship tank has undergone a major buff in this update. It now has equivalent health as the Heavy Tank. In addition, you will be able to spawn on colleagues in the Landship similar with a Heavy Tank.
