Clash of Clans' Facebook Page Hacked, Game's Earnings Spilled

Clash of Clans, It Looks Like Your Facebook Was Raided

Flappy Bird had its day in the sun, but with the app now officially removed, we're back to "normal," meaning that Finnish studios are continuing to rake in the dough. Case in point, Clash of Clans developer Supercell is apparently doing exceedingly well with its mobile tower defense title. Just how well? The exact figures vary depending on where you get your information from, but it's a figure that would make most drool.

The first source is a bit questionable, but let's dive right in. A hacker going by the name of "Ethical Spectrum" managed to hack the game's official Facebook page, and posted a picture that Gamezebo described as an alleged depiction of "Supercell's in-house analytics dashboard," which showed that on February 7th, Clash of Clans had generated a revenue of an astounding $5.15 million.

According to an October report from Bloomberg, Supercell is a billion dollar company, something they've attained thanks to Clash of Clans whopping player base, and three seperate purchasable currencies - gold, elixir, and gems - so making $5 million a day isn't outside the realm of reason. The only trouble is that the image could easily have been the work of someone with the most basic of photoshop skills, so don't think the company is making dollar over first just yet.

Now, on to the second source. Over the weekend, BusinessInsider looked at just what it was about Clash of Clans that helped launch Supercell into its 8 figure worth. The article itself is a basic overview of how the game works and plays, microtransactions and all, but the report also cited an interesting factoid from AppData, which was that, "In a single day, Clash of Clans brought in about $654,000." Information like that is only available to subscribers of the research firm, but AppData does have the game listed as the #1 top grossing app.

While that's a nice chunk of change, but it's also a far cry from $5 million. Supercell has since fixed its Facebook page, but hasn't commented on either figure. Probably busy thumbing through all those Euros.
