Far Cry News: Far Cry Classic and The Wild Expedition Compilation Out Now, Releases Next Week in the U.K. [TRAILER]

Far Cry Compilation, The Wild Expedition, Out Feb. 21, but Far Cry Classic is Good to Go

It's been a long and crazy ride for the FPS franchise Far Cry. First developed by Crytek of Ryse: Son of Rome and Crysis fame and released back in 2004 for the PC, the game won many accolades for a considerably more open and reactive environment then had ever been seen in the genre before. While a console port and a number of spin-offs were developed, they weren't received nearly as well as the original. Now, the game is back for another go with all manner of improvements as Far Cry Classic.

Despite its high praise, Far Cry wound up as something of a difficult to get a hold of game, having only been ported to the original Xbox. Ports were planned for the GameCube and PlayStation 2 only to be cancelled. As such, Far Cry Classic is a great way for players to miss out on a title now ten years old.

To make sure the game has kept up with the times, it features remastered graphics, cutscenes, redesigned and optimized controls, and an improved user interface. Beyond that, it's the same madness with genetic mutations run amok in a tropical paradise you heard about all those years ago.

The game's available as a standalone download from either the PlayStation Network and/or XBLA, or, part of Ubisoft's Far Cry compilation, The Wild Expedition, which is also now available. Grab the game on its own for $9.99, or get the whole set for about $40 (varies from retailer to retailer). Spring for the pack only if you've missed out on the recent Far Cry 3. The price makes the whole kit n' kaboodle worth it just for the utter brilliance and 80's cheese of the latter's Blood Dragon DLC, which also comes with the package. The compilation is also available on PC, but only stateside. Any U.K. gamers looking to get their blast on in a virtual Micronesia will have to be patient, as The Wild Expedition doesn't arrive there until February 21.

So get one game or get 'em all, but whatever you do, don't watch the movie. Check out the trailer below to see how much Far Cry Classic has improved on the original.
