“Blackberry DTEK70” Release Date, News & Updates: Device To Sport Remington-style QWERTY Keyboard?

The next generation smartphone device of Blackberry may sport a classic Remington-style QWERTY keyboard. This after a high-ranking official of TCL Communications in North America teased "Remington No. 2 of 1878" with a hashtag #TheNewBlackBerry on his Twitter account. Blackberry recently turned over its smartphone manufacturing and distribution businesses to China-based TCL.

Steve Cistulli, president of TCL Communication in North America, made the announcement on Twitter sparking speculations that Blackberry DTEK70 will feature the Remington-architecture. The historic Remington No. 2 was the first typewriter that can type in both capital and small letters. The Blackberry DTEK70 is set for a market debut during the CES 2017 in Las Vegas.

Several images of the upcoming Blackberry DTEK70 (Codename Mercury) started to surface online ahead of its speculated outing in January 2017. The photos first leaked on Chinese social media network Weibo. The Blackberry DTEK70 had wider but shorter touchscreen display. Its fingerprint sensors will be integrated into the space bar for a seamless smartphone experience. The device will feature navigation buttons and a QWERTY keyboard featuring four rows of keys, running with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and power and volume buttons on the right side of the device.

Although TCL Communications kept the information on Blackberry DTEK70 to the minimal, reports claimed that the device will sport a 4.5-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz, a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and an 18MP and 8MP front and rear cameras, respectively.

Blackberry DTEK70 is the last piece of the trio that completes Blackberry DTEK50 and Blackberry DTEK60. Its price tag was initially pegged within the $400 range. The DTEK70 will be the last in-house smartphone to be built by Blackberry before it will entirely turnover the manufacturing and distribution of its smartphone business to TCL.
