Ryse: Son of Rome Getting New DLC, Mars' Chosen Pack, Next Week

New Survival Mode Styled DLC for Ryse: Son of Rome Due Out Feb. 28

Ryse: Son of Rome may have been a visual treat, but its repetitive gameplay kept it from getting the best reviews. But at least that means there's room for improvement, and new DLC has been announced that could give the game the push it needs.

The Mars' Chosen Pack is due out for the Xbox One exclusive at the end of the month. A survial style mode is the crux of the DLC, which has players taking on endless hordes of enemies in a never ending co-op onslaught, keeping their health and stamina high through quick kills and executions. In addition to the new game mode, the DLC also offers four new maps: Obelisk, Pyramid, Firestorm, and Dockyard. The former two were designed specifically for the new mode, and other Courtyard has also been optimized for survival.

Son of Rome's Senior Producer, Justin Robey, spoke with Xbox.com about the new maps, as well as other aspects of the freshly announced DLC.

"These two new maps, Obelisk and Pyramid, are some of our coolest maps yet. Pyramid involves actually defending the building of a pyramid in Egypt while Obelisk is about battling it out in an Egyptian-themed village while protecting a build site. Pyramid is by far one of my favorites because you actually watch the pyramid get built. It's a very different environment than what you have seen in 'Ryse: Son of Rome.' Pyramid and Obelisk definitely add to the variety we wanted to have in the Gladiator Mode."

Gamers can grab the DLC at the end of the month for $8.99, or for free if they already have the game's Season Pass. The game will also be available at a lower cost of $40 as of tomorrow, February 18.
