Papers, Please Vita: Creator of Acclaimed Indie Game Interested in Portable Version

Paper's Please Developer Interested in Vita Port

In an interview with VG247 Lucas Pope, creator of Papers, Please, a depressing game in which you play as an immigration officer, deliberated on bringing the title to the PlayStation Vita. Not only that, but Pope stated that he was unsure of how he wants to go about doing the port; he's not sure if he wants to port it himself or let someone else do the job, because he's admittedly a bit of a control freak.

“Up until now, I’ve been the only guy who’s ever touched the source code or anything related to the game. And that’s just kind of a control issue,” Pope told VG247.

“For a Vita version, I’m 50 percent I want to do it myself and 50 percent I should just hand it off to somebody who knows what they’re doing and can take it over for me.

“So that’s the part of me that wants to be really involved in the port, but the other part is like, ’I got to do something else, I got to move onto something else’ so I haven’t really decided what to do there.”

Along with his struggle to decide whether or not he should port it himself or not, Pope has also acknowledged that the game's move to the Vita would require a UI redesign to accommodate the small real-estate of the 5 inch screen.

“I do want to do a Vita version, but the thing is there’s a lot of kind of interesting UI challenges to make it work well on Vita: much smaller screen, much smaller hit targets. So that kind of stuff interests me to try to figure out how to make it work well on Vita.” Pope explained to VG247.

Papers, Please released to quite the critical praise when it released on PC in August. Pope intends to bring the game to the iPad in the future, with a free game release in between now and then.
