In 2014, Toshinobu Matsuya tweeted that the Pokemon games go in this order: Fire Red/ Leaf Green/ Omega Ruby/ Alpha Sapphire, Heartgold/ Soulsilver/ Diamond/ Pearl, Black/White, Black 2/White 2/X/Y. It's uncertain where "Pokemon Sun and Moon" fits in.
Apparently, the "Pokemon" universe has "diverged into multiple realities." If this is the case, then the report speculated then there would be some big differences in the succeeding games such as an evil spirit that can't be defeated and open up a portal like Hoopas.
