Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air Latest News & Update: Device Getting An Update This Week; 4G Support, 7th-Gen Intel Kaby Lake CPU Expected

Xiaomi is said to introduce a refreshed version of its first ever laptop, which was released in August this year, the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air. The Chinese tech company will hold a launch event this week and will reportedly introduce a newer and more improved Air laptop.

As reported by GizmodoChina, Xiaomi is set to launch the new Mi Notebook Air on Dec. 23, Friday at an event in Beijing. The image of the invite also revealed some clues as to what this device may bring to the table. According to the report, the image of the Mi Notebook Air has a 4G module on it, suggesting that the refreshed version could support 4G networks.

Other details of Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air's specs that will receive an upgrade have not been revealed but several news outlets reported that the laptop should get a better processor in the form of a 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake architecture, according to FirstPost.

Currently, the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air comes in two variants based on screen sizes. One measures 12.5 inches while the other has 13.3 inches. It also has a sixth generation Core i5 Intel processor on board and n 8GB DDR4 RAM. The device also includes a NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU and a 256 GB SSD. Other features of the notebook include a USB Type-C port for rapid charging, as well as a standard USB 3.1 port. It is believed that any of these specs will get improved once Xiaomi gives more details this week.

In terms of price, the current Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air costs around $525 for the 12.5-inch variant and $750 for the 13-inch variant. It is expected that this price will go up if reports about the 4G-support are true. Xiaomi may have a great offering in Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air but unfortunately, the device is for sale only in China. A U.S. release date has not been announced, but hopefully, Xiaomi should be able to share more details on Dec. 23.
