Real Madrid announced in a statement today regarding the ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the transfer ban imposed to them by FIFA. The transfer ban has been reduced to one window, instead of the original two.

This means the club is banned from registering new players, locally or internationally, until June 2017. Real Madrid's previous fine of €328K ($342K) was also reduced to €224K ($233K) instead. The transfer ban was originally imposed to them due to violations found in signing up the youth players.

While this comes as a relief for Real Madrid, the decision has baffled rival Barcelona at the favorable ruling. FIFA imposed a transfer ban to the Catalan club on 2014 and it was upheld for two transfer windows as originally stated.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, the president of Barcelona, would like to know how did the Pintó & Ruiz del Valle law firm managed to win the case for Real Madrid but weren't able to do the same for them. Barcelona is unhappy at the difference in treatment between them and rival Real Madrid for the same offense.

But the reason why Real Madrid was given a better ruling is due to how Los Blancos paid heed to FIFA's warning within the 90 day period, while Barcelona ignored them. Real Madrid regularized the situation with its underage players, while Barca was unable to within that period. The willingness shown by Real on compliance with the regulations seems to have affected the outcome of the ruling as well, according to sources.
