Avid "Overwatch" players can expect to see a slew of in-game updates and enhancements in the coming year. Blizzard is set to continue its development work for the said gaming title which includes potential new characters, a new map and more.

With 2016 coming to an end, Blizzard has already set a development roadmap for "Overwatch" that will soon introduce new in-game items to the gaming title. In a recent clip, as cited by Digital Trends, director Jeff Kaplan highlighted some of the team's achievements for the year including a preview of what gamers can expect in 2017.

Describing the year as an "amazing" period for "Overwatch," Kaplan enumerated the many enhancements that they made to the game, as well as the various gaming events that were released. He also added that players can look forward to enjoying the new map Oasis in the early part of 2017. Kaplan even provided a quick update on how the said map, currently available on the game's public test realm, is on track for its planned release.

Aside from new maps, gamers can also look forward to new modes and seasonal events. The Blizzard executive even teased that some players may be able to guess a few of the upcoming events although some of these activities will totally surprise "Overwatch" gamers.

Other in-game content that might soon make it to the game's live version includes potential new heroes or game characters. However, Kaplan commented that the team typically works on several developments but that some of them may take a long time before being deployed to the game. He explained, "Because we prototype stuff and sometimes it fails, or we don't like it, or we want to go back to the drawing board."

In other news, Blizzard recently gifted free holiday loot boxes to avid "Overwatch" gamers. As part of the gaming company's "Winter Wonderland" event and a special Christmas treat, players can claim five free festive loot boxes simply by logging in and colleting the said gifts, according to Destructoid.
