Steam Marks Its First 14 Million Concurrent Users Last Weekend

Steam has marked a new milestone in its 13-years of serving the gaming community. PC gamers have relied on Steam to provide them with games, updates, match-making and other online services. The service developed by Valve Corporation has been the go-to choice for gamers who want to keep everything digital. The service also constantly offers great deals with their regular sales events. The service reached a peak 14.2 million users online on Saturday.

Gameinformer reports that the peak occurred around noon. Around 14,207,039 users were logged in and using the service. A graph shows the spike happen around 1:00 P.M. with many users supposedly logged in and playing their respective games. Most users appeared to have been online to buy games, play multiplayer matches, shop for add-ons or just browsing around.

According to Kotaku, there were big tournaments happening at the time for "Dota 2" and "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive," which could have also possibly contributed to the number of users logged in. Gameinformer has a detailed list of the number of users that contributed to the Steam milestone. "Dota 2" leads the games with 951,942 users, while "Counter-Stike: Global Offensive" comes in second with 675,195 users logged in. Third goes to "Grand Theft Auto V" with 116,230 players online.

"ARK: Survival Evolved managed 71,280 players online with "Team Fortress 2" grabbing fifth with 70,612 online gamers. Garry's mod as well as Rocket League each added 68,020 and 65,190 players respectively. Moreover, "Football Manager: 2017" adds 64,433 online players and "Rust" comes in with 63,709. Lastly, "Arma 3" managed to pull in 53,102 online gamers.

According to the list, Dota 2 appears to be the most popular game played online. It was able to register a peak of 1,291,328 players at one time, beating "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" and their 850,485 player peak record. Steam was able to register five million users online at the same time in 2012, while 2015 saw it reach up to 10 million.
