‘Shadow Tactics: Blades Of The Shogun’ Review

In a world filled with fast paced action, spinning wheels, shooting guns and sparks flying from clashing swords, “Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun” is a breath of fresh air.

Gamespot give a beautiful explanation of what “Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun” is. It is an elegant solution to the problem of making an enticing stealth based game. Be a shadow when it is needed, be wind when it is needed, but never be noticed, the rules cannot be more simple than that. To spare you the pain of redoing whole levels, the game has an automatic timer, which start counting after a minute in which a save has not been made. This both spares frustration and gives way to more experimental thinking outside of the boundaries of that which is expected to work. A mechanic as simple as that drastically increases the satisfaction from playing.

This game offers much more than a save timer. Different characters, different places, different challenges, different tactics, different answers to constantly changing questions. This game does not only allow you to experiment, it constantly pushes you forward, by placing you in different situations. PC Gamer describe it as the game in which one tactic will not always work. Every time you have a different team and you have to place your plans in accord with them. The change of location is not only a change of scenery, but also a change of pace and action. The mountains offer advantages which the city cannot. The snow’s steps may either betray you or be your best friend and it comes to you to think of ways in using all that is given to you.

A look through the Metacritic page for “Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun” is enough of proof for the game’s merit. With overall score of over 80 points and a multitude of 10/10 reviews, this game is one of the most successful releases of the month.
