Hideo Kojima to award Rockstar Games with BAFTA Fellowship Award

From one auteur to another, it has been announced that Metal Gear creator and Vice President of Konami Digital Entertainment Hideo Kojima will be awarding Rockstar Games the BAFTA Fellowship award in recognition of their many years writing and developing narrative-focused video games.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced yesterday that the studio behind the Grand Theft Auto series, Bully, Red Dead Redemption, and L.A. Noire will receive the award because of their work crafting "intricately layered interactive worlds that have kept the company at the forefront of the gaming industry for over a decade, both critically and commercially."

Rockstar Game's Sam Houser, Dan Houser, Leslie Benzies, and Aaron Garbut will attend the event on Wednesday, March 12 to receive the award as a group. Rockstar Games was founded by the Houser brothers in 1998.

This wouldn't be the first time that the Metal Gear creator attended a BAFTA event. In 2012 he delivered BAFTA's Annual Games Lecture. The 30-minute long lecture can be watched right here.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Showcase of Gaming Excellence + British Academy Games Awards will take place on Tobacco Dock in London on March 12. Tickets can be purchased by the public for each event on the BAFTA website.

This year's Showcase of Gaming Excellence marks the BAFTA's first pre-Awards event for the organization's British Academy Games Awards, where past presenters have included Peter Molyneux, Jonathan Ross, Charlie Brooker, and Rhianna Pratchett.

Rockstar Game's most recent release is the highly praised Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar's games have been a part of my childhood and a big part of why I got involved with the games industry. Good on them for winning an award.
