“No Man’s Sky”: Would Hello Games Dare Make Paid DLC?

“No Man’s Sky” more popular as “No Man’s Lie” is about to create even higher turmoil among the gaming community. How will Hello Games be able to achieve this?

Forbes Magazine tips off on possible paid DLC coming to Hello Games’ controversial title “No Man’s Sky”. This arouses high turmoil within the gaming community which is still separated between two high polar opposites when it comes to the game and the content it delivers to the paying customers.

The once Kickstarter title got picked by Sony Entertainment and was promoted as a near-infinite experience of traveling, discovery, crafting, exploration and fun. What players got was much below their expectations and the studio received a brutal backlash leading to Steam offering refunds even for gamers who had played the title much beyond the appointed limit.

On the other hand, Express UK has announced that Sean Murray from “Hello Games” has been chosen to speak before an audience at GDC 2017. What he will be talking about is the use of math in creating near infinite experiences.

If nothing else, one cannot deny that “No Man’s Sky” did deliver a giant universe up for the exploration, where the lack of content is rather irrelevant to its size. During the conference, the big problems which need be tackled during the building of a procedurally generated world will be discussed, this includes not only the math behind it but the arts, the content and the building of a whole big experience.

Those who are not familiar with the problems around “No Man’s Sky” can read Rock Paper Shotgun’s article on the game’s failed promises and why it is important to pay attention to them. The list is quite exhaustive and shows some of the worst things that PR have forced onto players.

Pure multiplayer experience, a multitude of different creatures, some of which sub-terranean. Shipwrecks, different languages and dialects and much, much more. It is not sure what the future of “No Man’s Sky” is, but a paid DLC is not among the smart moves which “Hello Games” could take.
