‘Overwatch’ Director To Ban Keyboards & Mouse; Gamers With Disabilities Disagree

"Overwatch" director Jeff Kaplan did not appreciate how the use of a mouse and a keyboard threw off the game's competitive balance. The director disapproves third party adapters allowing the use of such device  in consoles. But those who advocate for a full gaming experience for gamers with disabilities disagree.

Director Kaplan of "Overwatch" speaks against the console mouse and keyboard adapters. The director expressed his belief that Microsoft, Sony and other consoles agree towards banning the use of input conversion devices. According to Arstechnica, the director does not approve of how such devices disrupt any game's competitive advantage.

According to Polygon, gamers felt fair with the idea that every single player in the same platform would have to play with a uniform control scheme. However, third party adapters has recently disrupted this balance by allowing console players to attach a keyboard and a mouse.

According to Kaplan, the team behind "Overwatch", objects to the integration of a mouse and a keyboard to the game on the console. The director added that they have already made necessary steps, including contacting first-party console manufacturers about their stand against the use of a mouse, keyboard, and any other form of input conversion devices.

The director adds that they will continue to lobby for the first-party console manufacturers so that all forms of input conversion devices will advance their concerns. He encourages other developers to reach out to other hardware manufacturers.

Kaplan's concern is directed to products like the XIM4 costing $125, allows players to connect certain USBs on the keyboards and  mouse. Such device works on Xbox One, PS4 games, PS3 and Xbox 360 titles.

Meanwhile, gamers who advocate to allow players with disability to enjoy the same level of gaming experience disagree with Kaplan. To ban keyboards, mouse and the like gadgets would deprive 33 million American gamers, and another hundreds of million around the world with disability with the experience.
